This is a very important message to all of our clients and potential clients, please read carefully as it may affect your ability to use our service in the future. The International Marriage Broker Regulation Act, IMBRA, was passed as part of the 2005 reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), and signed into law by President Bush on January 5, 2006. IMBRA was intended to provide useful information to women who avail themselves of the services of International Matchmaking Agencies. IMBRA requires international matchmakers to do several things, including but not limited to, verifying the women who use the service are eighteen years old or older, and that the men's criminal/marital history is presented to the women, in their own language, prior to any personal contact information being exchanged. It is important that you as a client of a company only use IMBRA compliant companies because IMBRA has been incorporated into the Fiancée visa application. If you met your fiancée via an International Introduction agency you will be asked to produce a copy of the singed and dated IMBRA form, failure to produce that document may result in a delay or denial of your fiancées Fiancée (k-1, k-2) or Spousal (k-3) visa. A Foreign Affair has always complied with the existing Federal legislation concerning this industry and will of course comply with the existing IMBRA legislation as well. There are companies providing International Matchmaking service who do not fully comply or simply ignore IMBRA, be very careful of using these companies as it may interfere with your ability to successfully complete the fiancée visa process and bring your fiancée to the United States. It is very important for you as a client that you only use sites that comply with this legislation if you plan on petitioning the government for a fiancee (K1) visa. If you use a service that does not comply with this legislation you and your fiancee may have difficulties when petitioning for the K1 visa. It is important that the women receive a copy of your personal background information prior to the two of you exchanging any personal contact information.
